Today, I'm going to shine a light on my favorite villain in the DC Universe. I know that I just did Sinestro recently, and as much as I love Sinestro (which is a lot) today's villain tops him. He's a normal guy who has a high-tech weapon, and a costume that is somehow rediculous and awesome at the same time. He's been a rogue to one of my least favorite DC characters and to one of my absolute most favorite characters ever, and every time he shows up (especially when written by Geoff Johns) than you can bet he's going to do something badass. Today's villain is Captain Cold.
Background: Raised by an abusive and alcoholic father, Len Snart had a really rough childhood so of course he would one day turn to supervillainy. Snart built a gun that freeze something to Absolute Zero, the point at which molecules no longer move, and he donned a parka and some glasses and become Captain Cold. Cold was one of the chief rogues of Barry Allen's The Flash (blargh) as well as Wally West (Hoo-Ray!!), and is often seen as the leader of the Rogues or at least the guy that keeps them all in check. See, the Flash has one of the best rogues galleries in comic books, plain and simple, because they stick a strict code of how to conduct business. They never kill women, children, or innocents. They don't do drugs. They never kill the Flash cause they know that'll just bring the superheroes after them. Honestly, all the Rogues want is to rob banks and live their lives on their own terms, and maybe knock the Flash around if he gets in their way. Cold sticks to the rules the hardest and makes sure that no one else ever steps out of line, going so far as to beat Mirror Master for doing drugs and getting sloppy. Cold's sense of honor and code are what make him so fascinating, as he isn't a villain for the sake of being evil or hurting others. That's why Cold is the best. Plus, his costume is kinda badass.
